Please
find here a
letter that proposes a Project, which provides
an opportunity to bring Expats more into contact
with Dutch culture, the Dutch way of living,
as well as to give them the opportunity to practice
their Dutch language, and have fun along the way.
The proposal: It would consist of four or five
outings during the next school year on Saturdays or
evenings during which a particular aspect of Dutch culture
would be stressed. As you will see in the attachment
to this letter, the activities range from watching a
Dutch movie together, to visiting a museum. Each time,
the participants should prepare a short presentation
and the activity or visit would end with an opportunity
for discussion.
This project is exclusive to the European School Bergen.
The Orde van den Prince will present the initiative
at a meeting on Monday 14 June from 15.30 h
to 16.00 h to be held in the Studyhall of the secondary
school .
We have the pleasure of inviting you and look forward

Dear everybody, After
looking at all of the available weather forecasts, the
management have decided that the school will
be open as usual on Friday January 8th. We
expect most students to be able to get to school and
to get home without difficulty. As conditions vary from
area to area, we would urge you to respond to the local
conditions and put safety first. The weather forecast
for the weekend is not good, and please continue to
check your emails, the websites and the blog for further
information about any possible further closure of the
school. www.europeanschool.nl

| 06/01/10: Due
to the extreme local weather conditions
and the forecast for the next 24 hours in the region of
North Holland, as well as difficulties with public transport,

but for the sake of the safety of the students we believe
that it would be too much of a risk to keep the school
open as normal. We will make an announce-ment on the school
websites www.europeanschool.nl
; www.esbergen.org
and on the secondary school blog by 20:00 on Thursday
about reopening the school on Friday. Best

The outcome of the study of the European
Parliament of the Alumni of the European
Schools has been published yesterday and was
very positive:
High
Satisfaction Rate with the European Schools
Former pupils of the European schools generally have
a high opinion of their school and of the way it prepared
them for higher education. That is one of the main conclusions
of a study on the academic and professional career of
the European Schools' graduates, based on a survey which
was answered by roughly 3000 of them.
The study examines, among other things, where former
pupils attend university, what subjects they study and
in which sectors they later work. The results of the
survey are analysed taking into account the particularities
of the European Schools' curriculum.

|
| 29/08/07:
Initially it
seemed as if the childminding service
would commence with only a limited service in September,
due to lack of enrolments. However from the outcome
of the questionnaire, which the parents received at
the beginning of the previous school year, it is assumed
that this is a teething problem at the beginning of
the service. The Parents' Association has therefore
organised a financial guarantee to bridge this uncertainty.
That means that the services rendered by Forte
will be supplemented for a maximum of one year to ensure
continuity in the afternoons .
The
childminding service at the European School Bergen is
therefore guaranteed on every school day, i.e. from
13h00 until 18h00 on the short days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Fridays) and from 16h15 until 18h00 on the long
days (Mondays and Thursdays) for the ensuing school
year, 2007-2008.
The
service in the mornings (before school) and during school
holidays, as well as longer hours in the afternoons,
will commence once sufficient enrolments have been received.

[ PDF - file] The
Secondary school Education Committee Meeting with
representation of teachers, pupils, parents and direction
decided at its meeting in June 2003 to add a
dress code to the school rules.
This reads as follows:
"All members of the school community must come
to school suitably dressed on the working day. Their
dress must not disturb the working atmosphere of our
school. The Direction will have the final say in this
matter."
Furthermore the school policies on ANTI-BULLYING
and GIFTED & TALENTED PUPILS
have been decided upon (both policies can be read above):
- A proactive approach will be taken aiming at preventing
BULLYING
by raising awareness of it, having strategies that
promote a positive, supportive environment and having
a procedure that will be followed if bullying should
occur. [PDF-File]
- The aim of the policy on GIFTED
& TALENTED PUPILS is to recognize
the
need for these pupils to develop their potential.
Raising the attainment of these pupils is likely
to raise the attainment level of the school in general.
This will be done both by differentiation in class
and by special projects. [PDF-File]
